About Echo Park
Historically oil-rich and prized for its hillside lots, the Echo Park community grew in the late 1800s — during which silent film and real estate development took shape.
From oil barons to war veterans to rock stars, Echo Park has been home to history. It is the land of Edward Doheny, Mary Pickford, Charles Bukowski, The Eagles, Steve McQueen, and The Dodgers, to name a few.
Its current denizens are ethnically and socio-politically mixed, with a fabric of retailers and architecture as equally diverse. Taquerias, provincial French cuisine, and gastropubs have equal footing in Echo Park.
The suburban sprawl — encompassing Angeleno Heights, Edendale, Historic Filipinotown, Elysian Heights, Temple-Beaudry, Sunset Heights, Belmont Heights, Victor Heights — displays a wealth of architecture. Queen Anne Victorians, Mid-Century homes, California bungalows, and Craftsmans line various blocks throughout.
The neighborhood is prized for Echo Park Lake and Angelenos descend on the park for its annual Lotus Festival.
