Stairway Real Estate? Echo Park Cottage Hits Market At $399k

In 1914, when Echo Park was known as Edendale and Red Cars on the Pacific Electric Railway were the mode du jour, residents used public stairways (and their glutes) to access the 1-bedroom cottage cabins on Loma Vista Place.  Edendale movie studios, for silent film-making, proliferated on the four-block stretch of Allesandro, between Berkeley and Duane.  At present, the Silver Lake and Echo Park boundaries of the narrow stair street are cut off by the 2 freeway and, luckily, the home at 2113 lies on the eastern Echo Park slope of the hill off Allesandro.

This Craftsman bungalow only requires less than 2 dozen dainty steps before you reach the front door.  And, despite being built in the early 1900s, the bungalow has modern amenities inside — Caesarstone kitchen counter tops below the clerestory ceiling, stainless steel appliances, recessed lighting, updated plumbing and electrical, central heat/air, zebra-veined bathroom cabinetry, and an impressive array of shower fixtures.

Although the interior is only 685 square feet, the layout of the property is rather thoughtful — a den/study juts out from the living room and a separate studio is housed on the 2,680 square foot lot.  My favorite part of the house is not inside, but out: a generous deck wraps around the front patio and along the side of the home, perfect for dining outdoors and entertaining.

The sylvan retreat, sans parking, is already in contract.  Backup offers are being considered.  Thomas C. Mann of Keller Williams Realty, Westside and Ann Metzger of Surterre Properties have the listing.  2112 Loma Vista Place, across the stair street and a comparable property, sold in January of this year for $321,000.
